Jasmine Trias has made Industry Impact with  New Release

by HuiMusic

What a difference a year makes!  It’s been just that long since Jasmine Trias as gone from American Idol top finalist to releasing her debut CD.  Now her life has gone into full-on touring, performing and supporting her new CD.

For the last few years I as well as the rest of Hawaii have watched Jasmine go from local shows and competition to global exposure.  I had the opportunity to see a glimpse of what Jasmine was capable of about 2 years ago during a contest put on by HOT 93.9 at Local Motion in Waikiki.  I was one of the judges along with Wayne Brady and Olena Rubin’s and was set back by the talent Jasmine has.  Of course she won and with that she was poised to take the next step.

Fast forward to today.  We all know about her great success with American Idol.  For a year after the program ended she was bound by contract to tour with the other contestants to milk the AI machine.  Undoubtedly that was probably the most important part of her climb and preparation to releasing her first CD.  Performing live as a solo Pop artist is the most important aspect of being a top artist and the tour afforded her that experience.

So thanks to her PR company I was able to get a few minutes with Jasmine on the phone last week to talk story before she bounced off to Canada for a show.  The first impression I got is that she has really matured in her career while maintaining her youthful exuberance.

I remember during the American Idol show that one of the concerns was that Jasmine was performing songs that were a bit mature for a young singer.  At the time I had to agree but Jasmine still executed the songs flawlessly.  But that’s all changed now; she’s got her game on now!

I got a hold of her new CD  and all the hard work and tireless touring brought a new mature sound to Jasmine as a performer.  The track Excuses is her single and to me it’s the best cut on the CD but there are some killer tracks that show her polished vocals at there best.

With major support form headlining writers like Diane Warren and Vincent Herbert, Jasmine stood on the shoulders of giants and kept her balance.  The CD has a great compilation of R&B Soul with solid Hip Hop rhythms that support a more mature Jasmine.

Her new found voice through experience and her island beauty combined with a believable performance on her new CD made for an incredible “break-out” of her debut CD produced by ClockWork Entertainment.

Her CD broke-out hard with big Billboard chart showings.  During the week ending 7-31-05 , Jasmines CD showed up as #1 in Heat Seekers, as well as in the top 20 for Independent releases which is HUGE for any artist!

Now for the CD; Jasmine did a tremendous job performing the material.  The production is very consistent with what’s hot at the moment.  The producers were able to get various performances that show the new level of talent that Jasmine has achieved in the last 2 years.  On thing I noticed is her effortless “riffing” is very soulful and not a “bite” of other styles.  She’s in total control!

Very cool vocal arrangements and catchy lyrical hooks escorts her CD into the power play mainstream of R&B/Hip Hop.  Very tight arrangements and programming of the music gives solid support for Jasmine to showcase herself as an artist now getting much deserved respect as a top level artist.  Jasmine has a strong command of her vocal abilities and hit everything dead on with her CD.

This is a great CD that will take Jasmine to new levels of here career.  Already Jasmine is a huge star in the Philippines.  The support in the mainland has also been strong with mainland touring to start in the near future.  But it’s here at home that Jasmine receives an endless stream of support and love for her music and achievements as a Hawaiian artist.

The fan base in the Philippines is tremendous.  The people of the Philippines as well as the extended community here in Hawaii is boundless and loyal.  One should only be so lucky as to have the impact and support from a country/community that of the people of the Pan-Pacific.  In my conversation with Jasmine, she was so blown-away at the total support from her extended family in the Philippines.  But to no surprise to me, the Philippines are very supportive of artists from Hawaii.

Another quick note: "Kutmaster Spaz" recently signed a deal with Jasmine Trias to be her DJ and Hype man for her up coming concert tour performances which will kick off in October in Hawaii and will include dates in other parts of the U.S., Canada and the Philippines."  Kick off Concert date will on October 15th (6:00 pm) on Oahu (Hawaii) at Kaponno's in the Aloha Tower Market Place

Jasmine has many miles of success to travel and she is one her way with a great support team comprised of family, friends and faith.  With a truly strong CD, performance abilities and of course classic talent and appearance, Jasmine is on a rocket towards the dreams of any artist; doing what love and being able to fill your gas tank with the rewards.  :>)

HuiMusic is stoked to be able to present and support Jasmine both on your LavaLounge radio show and now, her video.  THAT’S RIGHT!  We have her promotional video from her hit single “Excuses” now on the LavaLounge for the world to see!

Jasmine also took some time to do our usual Q&A.  As you will read, Jasmine really has an Aloha grip on being humble and not blind-sided by her new journey through the entertainment machine.  With great support from her family and friends, Jasmine still maintains her beliefs and cuts through the hype of the industry with a personality that keeps her real.  For that, Jasmine will always be the artist that will escort the spirit of Aloha through her life as an artist from Hawaii.  In my opinion she’s a perfect roll model to keeping the dream alive and WORKING YOU’RE A$$ OFF to make it happen!

Special thanks to Teal Thompson from Jasmines PR company in Hawaii for assisting me in obtaining the video and the time for me to talk to Jasmine and get this article wrapped up.

 Here’s Jasmine:

  • First, are you on top of the world right now?

The Top? No, there’s still a lot more that I have to work towards. I have the “Top of the world” feeling whenever I perform on stage.

  • Since you’ve grown from a local, hard working performer to a world recognized artist, how as the workload changed for you?  More Travel?  More PR demands?

It’s has definitely changed a lot. I travel more, I do lots of interviews, I meet lots of people. Overall, I’m having so much fun with it. It’s a once in a lifetime experience.

  • You must be ecstatic with the way your CD has broken-out!  What’s it like hearing your music on the radio and TV?

Hitting the Billboard charts in the 1st week of sales and hearing my music on the radio is an indescribable feeling. It’s a rewarding experience.

  • You have a great fan base in the Philippines as well as here in Hawaii .  Are you getting ready for a pacific tour soon?

Yes, I’m currently working on hitting the US mainland with some shows so I can spread my music and hopefully be an inspiration to more people.

  • Your success through American Idol to the release of your CD has had a tremendous positive effect on the hopes of local Pip/R&B artists.  What was mindset that you kept that drove you to the top?

There’s still a lot to work towards, but I always told myself that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and never give up. If there’s a will there’s a way.

  • How is your family doing with your success?

My family has been handling it very well. They’ve been so supportive since the AI days and they help keep my feet on the ground. I’m so thankful for my family because I know that they’ll always be there for me.

  • Where do you spend “personal time” in Hawaii ?  (Beach, friends, movies?)

I spend most of my personal time with my family and friends at the beach, movies, at the mall, or anywhere that calls for a great time. My favorite thing to do is to relax by going to the beach, surf, shop of course, hang out with friends and family!

  • What’s the coolest thing about being a successful artist?

I think I have achieved a certain degree of success but there are a lot more things that I need to work on to get there. But for now, the coolest thing is that I got the opportunity to meet many celebrities. The most memorable for me was Alicia Keys.

  • What’s the toughest thing about your success?

I would say spending more time away from home and family is pretty tough.

  • Any words of wisdom to future Hawaii Pop/R&B artists?

Keep an open mind, never stop listening & learning. Anything is possible with hard work. Always believe in yourself without a doubt and never give up. Be strong, whenever you fall, pick yourself up and try again. Sometimes you may get caught up with your success, but you need to stay true to who you are and keep your feet on the ground.
