Weldon Kekauoha & Tapa Groove, the group
formerly known as The Mana’o Company,
presents a refreshing collection of original
and traditional compositions on a new
release entitled, Kanaka Maoli.
Weldon’s thought provoking and
poetic lyrics, displays wit and maturity.
His melodies are fluid and
compositions multi-dimensional.
Weldon draws you into each musical
thought.
Kekauoha’s 2000 Hoku Award winning
debut album, Hawaiian Man,
featured him as an accomplished solo
musician.
He went on to become a member of The
Mana’o Company, where he garnered five
additional awards at the 2002 Hokus,
including Album of the Year, Contemporary
Album of the Year and Song of the Year.
Weldon’s love for music began at
the age of five when his father bought him
his first ‘ukulele.
Raised in the Kaimuki area, he
continues to hone his musical craft.
By day he is a flight attendant for
Hawaiian Airlines and by night, you can find
him performing traditional Hawaiian
standards.
In addition to playing music, Weldon
is a father of three little girls, Melia,
Moea, and Haili.
Now, he finds himself at the helm of
a different canoe as producer, composer and
leader.
Outstanding musicians, Tapa Groove
members are John Baricuatro Jr., Salaam
Tillman, and Kaulana Pakele.
They seamlessly blend their voices to
create flavorful harmonies within a rich
texture of tone.
Weldon is also accompanied by some of
Hawai’i
’s musical talents including: Roland
Cazimero, Reign, Barry Flanagan and Robi
Kahakalu.
